What's your attitude when you're not
winning or getting what you want? How do you respond
when something doesn’t go your way, or when a less
than favourable situation persists, or when the odds
are against a win?
Do you say to yourself, "There's nothing I can do
about this. Nothing is ever going to change. Oh
well, I'll just do what I can do."? Do you think
you’ve accepted things when in reality, the
underlying feeling of defeat is still there waiting
to resurface the next time something doesn’t work
out to your liking?
Most people don't realise that an attitude of
resignation is a subtle form of stress. Over time
stress drains vitality, resiliency and personal
power, and like other stressful feelings, feeling
resigned can limit perspective and obliterate any
chance of seeing things any other way.
Perhaps there is nothing you can do about some
situations. What you can do, however, is transform
the underlying negative attitude, however subtle,
that in the end can compromise your performance, not
to mention your health.
In future, think FROG to minimise the stressful
attitude and the negative impact it has on your
body. Frog focus, Frog breathe. Change your attitude
by replacing it with appreciation and positive
feelings. Appreciate all you have in your life that
brings a sense of success, hope and joy, including
the opportunity to play the game.
Consciously moving to a positive attitude not only
supports a more regenerative, high performance
physiological state, it may just help you see
another way to play the game and enable you to give
it your all - regardless of the score!
